Timer Relay in Industrial Control
Timer Relay
A timer relay is an industrial control device used to switch an electrical circuit after a preset time or according to a specific timing sequence. It normally combines an electronic timing circuit with an electromechanical relay output. Timer relays are widely used in industrial automation, electrical control panels, motor control, pumps, fans, valves, conveyor systems, lighting, heating, ventilation, and many types of machinery.
Depending on the model, a timer relay can provide functions such as ON-delay, OFF-delay, pulse operation, interval timing, and cyclic ON/OFF switching. The required delay can usually be adjusted from seconds to minutes or even hours.
Timer relays are important because they provide simple, reliable, and adjustable time-based control without requiring a PLC or software programming. They can reduce control-system complexity and cost. Their relay contacts can also provide electrical isolation between the control circuit and the load, making them useful for many industrial applications.
Tele E1ZM10 is a multifunction time relay (timer relay). It is an industrial DIN-rail device used to switch another device—such as a contactor, valve, motor-control circuit, lamp, or PLC input- after a defined time or according to a timing sequence.
It accepts a very wide control/supply voltage: 24–240 V AC/DC, 50/60 Hz. The output is a changeover relay contact rated up to 8 A / 250 V AC.
| Terminal | Function |
|---|---|
| A1 – A2 | Supply/control voltage, 24–240 V AC/DC (A1 +24V) |
| B1 | External control/start input |
| 15 | Relay common contact |
| 16 | Normally closed (NC) contact |
| 18 | Normally open (NO) contact |
Before the timer operates:
15 → 16 connected
After the timer operates:
15 → 18 connected
| Timer state | Terminal 16 | Terminal 18 |
|---|---|---|
| Relay not activated | ~24 V | ~0 V |
| Relay activated | ~0 V | ~24 V |
